Here in the Survey Zone, we’re proud to host this first very brief and focused survey that spawned from some of the new information that came from our recent interview article with Seth Luisi about SOCOM Confrontation as well as some requests from the “hard core” SOCOM fans.

As fans eagerly await more information about the first PlayStation 3 SOCOM title, it is obvious that some are showing early concern about what they’ve seen so far. So, let us try to put some numbers and percentages to those concerns!

This Video game series has the opportunity to become a huge title the game needs to be 8v8 small maps ie. Socom 1 and 2 bigger is not always better.

With small maps this game has the great opportunity to become a huge pro game on ladders such as MLG and Gamebattles.

Look how big Halo is now there is actually a pro-cirvuit that travles arcoss US. Now im not a halo fan i find the game fake and boring.

Socom could be HUGE the cards just need to be played right

  2. Alex on July 16th, 2007 7:37 pm

I agree with what Josh said, this game really does need to go back to 8v8 small maps. In addition, they DEFINATELY need to make the guns as accurate as they were in Socom 1 and Socom 2. SOCOM 3/ca gun spray was very random and unrealistic, and from the trailers Confrontation is looking the same. We want the most realistic navy seal shooter ever. That included the hit detection and amount of health in SOCOM 1, meaning 3 hits and you’re dead.

  3. Josh on July 16th, 2007 8:11 pm

This series started going downhill late in the life of SOCOM 2. With all the glitches and cheats still available in the game, even with the DNAS system. Then SOCOM 3 felt extremely rushed, and had many many flaws. I gave up within 4 months of starting online in SOCOM 3. I have yet to even consider buying Combined Assault due to the fiasco that SOCOM 3 was. SOCOM would have been one of the titles that I would consider buying a PS3 for. These days however, I just sigh to myself with how good the series could have been.

In my personal opinion I think the major factor in fan base reduction and any dissatisfied users is the fact that S3 and SCA especially had several functions that were inoperative and the titles were full of bugs in the system….

Players spend there money to have a good time and when you get a product that is either incomplete or broken/multifunctional with no support present..It will takes its toll on the community sooner or later.

The first 2 Socom titles had patches that attempted to address problems within the game and with the servers however, we have yet to see any of that as promised..

Chalk all of that up with false announcements for intentions that are not followed through, poor customer support for the game, game crashes and bugs and no maps too really makes the game not very enjoyable unlike previous original Socom title’s. Not too mention circumstances that cannot be avoided like all those cheaters lag,and poor attitudes.

My suggestion is for the future… Finish your product..test it and re-test it and then test it some more…Communicate with the community and acknowledge them more frequently and maintain your product with patches and downloads as necessary.

  5. Shacks on July 17th, 2007 4:34 am

The last question should have had the option “All of the above”

  6. Steven Ross on July 17th, 2007 9:40 am

ALithium is the worst comopany on earth. It is being run by corrupt people with an agenda. The first question in the survey is disgusting. It totaly does not account for ADAM {Cheatsters} power tripping BANS on people such as myself who gave and gave and gave and gave to that cmmunity…ONLY TO BE BANNED FOR STANDING UP TO ILL INTENDED 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN WHO FREQUENT THE FORUM WITH SOME SORT OF CARTE BLANCHE BECAUSE CHEATSER AND HIS MOD SQUAD DO NOT DO THEIR JOBS PROPERLY !!!

after spending 3 seepless nights preparing AND EDITING what i consider to be the single best socom video ever made FOR THE psu SCOM forum, i woke up to find myself BANNED FOR NO REASON, GOING ON A FULL YEAR NOW !!!

AFTER SENDING COUNTLESS ARTICLES WITH PROOF OF LITHIUMS FUCK UPS…NOTHIGN WAS DONE AND I NEVER HEARD FROM EITHER LITHIUM OR SONY…BOTH COMPANYS REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY !!!

ONE DAY THE TRUTH IS GOING TO COME OUT

THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THE ENTIRE FRNACHISE RIGHT NOW ARE THE SELECT GROUP OF CORRUPT PEOPLE RUNNING THINGS AT LITHIUM AND AT SONY !!!

  7. Kevin on July 17th, 2007 10:22 am

Bring 8v8 back with smaller maps and remakes of S2 maps.

  8. [APE]omaha-cr-31 on July 17th, 2007 11:49 am

I also, feel a lot of the community in general has lost faith in Seth and the rest of the Devs whether they intend well or not…I personally feel Blykmik is the only one ever to try to keep the community informed consistently over the years and has ever been able to adequately do so on a satisfactory level. He in my opinion should be given a job with the Dev team.

Although, Dev-Gru Echo has been getting a a lot better about trying to keep us in the loop he could tell us more but, with all of this I also feel a lot is out of there hands or stuff is being just kept secret to keep the buzz going on future titles (the suspense/and anticipation)

Although that will only last for so long.

I somewhere am starting to believe that that they are looking at it from a corporation point of view…

Producing a product and concerned about generating revenue by whatever means necessary and by using a good original titles reputation to sell future titles and are willing to tell the fans whatever to keep them coming back for more…

I personally am a die hard Socom fan and a sucker to boot..All I do is hope that one day they can produce another hit like the original.

While the last 2 titles had huge potential there drawbacks ultimately do them in.They are playable but that is the extent of it in my current opinion.

We in the community need to have our trust back with the Socom Franchise, bettort Game support, and a unbroken product and until that happens things won’t be the same as they were with the release of the original 2 titles.

  9. blykmik on July 17th, 2007 12:34 pm

    @ Steven Ross:

    Is that you Thurgood???

The surveys here have nothing to do with Sony’s Lithium run message boards… (Other than the fact that they don’t seem to put up surveys like this… so we saw an opportunity) :-)

I didn’t know the circumstances of your ban… but I know you’re one of the “hard core” SOCOMers (if this is you)…

But feel free to link your “single best socom video ever made” and we won’t censor it!

(And hey! Maybe there’s a news story in there somewhere too!)

    Good to see you again!

    I’ll let him know !

  11. Stealth on July 17th, 2007 9:45 pm

Great to see anything SOCOM Related upon and with Direction bly!, I dont agree that SOCOM needs to Return to a team size of 8 Vs. 8. Though I do believe everyone in here owes it to SOCOM to at least Imagine SOCOM and SOCOM II with 32 Players, that’s all I ask for is that you give that idea a really hard and long thought, because its Not 32 Players, Not Vehicles, Not Big Maps that stole SOCOMs Glory. It’s the Core Game Play of SOCOM and SOCOM II that were/are truely Responsible for SOCOMs Legendary Status. And that and all the Small on-foot Details that SOCOM and SOCOM II have.

SOCOM and SOCOM II with 32 Players and Big Maps is what we Should get, and I ask for your Imagination !

    Yes, Mike this is “Stealth”

  12. Folly on July 17th, 2007 9:52 pm

The real downfall of SOCOM was the change in the weapons and killing system, everyone recognizes this besides Sony & Zipper. Big maps might have been really good if the game play was more like SOCOM 1 or SOCOM 2.

  13. Evan on July 18th, 2007 4:39 am

It’s quite devestating how the Socom creators do not realize how successful they could be if they just made another Socom 2 with a few improvements. Us hardcore fans do not want these big, boring maps with relentless spraying guns. We don’t want out chaarcter walking like he has a stick in his ass. We just want our Socom 1/Socom 2 game play back. Since Socom 2 the series has just become worse and worse.

  14. Paolo on July 18th, 2007 12:42 pm

i iwsh it woiuld be like socom 1 and socom 2 there was nothing wrong with those 2. i stop playing socmo after socom 3 came out i didn~t like it… it just wasnt the same anymore… so hopefully this time i hope this socom will be like the last one…

  15. Ronny on July 18th, 2007 4:02 pm

The main reason it fell was because of the weak support of the community. So far in CA, we have lost 3 of our best clans in the game. We are in desperate need of a patch Luisi. Put confrontation on hold for a sec, and fix the problem NOW.

Half a year ago we were told that a patch was being developed and here we are and nothing!

Luisi open your eyes man, patch us up!

  16. Kevin on July 18th, 2007 5:22 pm

socom definitely died out because of the lack of support from zipper. they promised patches and since the release of socom 3, there’s only been 4 or 5. they also promised 3 map packs and we received one. there are too many people using codes and zipper has done almost nothing to ban them or fix the glitches. zipper hasn’t been involved as they said they would causing the game to lose its fun.

thank god zipper isn’t developing this new game. it has the chance to be as good as it once was.

  17. [APE]omaha cr-31 on July 19th, 2007 5:02 pm

I know one thing having the Sony forums down for 4 hours straight for maitenence instead of early in the morning or overnight in the middle of the afternoon and evening doesn’t show much concern for the community or help things much either !

  18. Joshua on July 21st, 2007 3:27 pm

I think that there should be alot more guns and vehicles, like the M1A1 or A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. Also the ranges are screwy only 200m come on the m14 can go 1000m+ the rule of thumb if you can see it you can kill it and the Berrett .50 cal Semi-Atuo Sniper rife needs to be a SEAL Weapon. I would like to see Knifes in the game, so if you sneek up on a sniper you can slit his throt (no blood sqerting to grafic).

Please bring back the blood so I can see if I hit a guy or not and also see where I was hit.

I would like to see you get rid of the cheaters to check there disc when they try to log on and there IP Adress is block untill the call and a baned for a short term (first time) block them for six months (secend time) and banned from socom alltogether (theird time cought cheating)

  19. Matthew Chasse aka SaCReD*uK on July 22nd, 2007 10:53 pm

keep it small with players not 16, it will lagg as it has already in your videos. Jumping looks dumb stupid computer stuff, we play console for a reason. I’ve seen many cheating devices for PS3 already don’t let this game get hacked. The guns need to be accurate and less sponging. In the vids people did sponge.

  20. ChAoS on July 22nd, 2007 10:57 pm

    MAKE IT MORE LIKE S2

  21. Preston on July 22nd, 2007 11:06 pm

Alright i’ll throw it down right now. The hit detection needs to be like Socom1. That was an amazing series. Though the maps should be the same as Socom2 but decide brightness in each map. The Socom2 maps should have more detail in them for sure. Thats a given for the ps3. Everything like cheaters and glitches should be taken care of, and have weekly or monthly patches. THE GUNS SHOULD GO WHERE YOU AIM for christ sake also. I mean in Socom 1 they took 3 hits. In real life u can barely take 2 bullets before you would die. They should stay 8v8 maybe 10v10 MAX. If you do this it will keep the lag down. Just look at socom1 and 2 fix there clothes a little and you’ll have the game of the Future basically.

  22. JuNk on July 22nd, 2007 11:26 pm

If this new game is anything like s1 or s2 i would buy a ps3 just for this game..

Im sure thousands more fell the same way..

  23. Jonny on July 23rd, 2007 3:51 am

Gameplay like s1/s2 maybe? Definetly hit detection of s1, make it more realistic. Try to make the physics of the game more realistic, ex.- no jump sniping, lol. Keep it at maybe 8v8, 12v12 at max, less lag. Definetly have weekly to monthly patches to make sure there are no rankups/cheaters/glitches. Same guns from Socom 1/2, maybe a few add ins. Gun attatchments would be cool like from Socom 3.

One thing I think would be cool, is if at every certain rank you can use a new gun. Like to unlock them. Also, if we can customize our Character for each map and save it so we have our own unique Character. Just thought of those ideas..

  24. Jay on July 23rd, 2007 7:41 am

I think by now we’ve already established what ruined SOCOM after the second installment:

    - The first problem has been an issue since day one. Let’s start with SOCOM’s poor anti-cheat strategy. After about 4 games, they still haven’t managed to stop cheating, and I’m not even talking about regular glitches and other minor things — I’m talking hardcore cheating via flash drives filled with codes bypassing DNAS. It’s ridiculous.

    - The second issue has to do with these huge boring ass barren maps. How is that fun at all? We want fast paced action; people are tired of having to play scavenger hunt.

    - Too many players. I thought it was a joke when I heard 16 on 16 for SOCOM3 and Combined Assault. That had “No Fun” & “Matrix Lag” written all over it and Zipper included it despite knowing the consequences.

Bottom line is, Zipper is too busy trying to milk money out of unsuspecting gamers and that’s all they care about. I remembered when they tried to shove map packs down everyone’s throat (for extra fees of course) and couldn’t even get that done right either. It’s pretty clear that they didn’t give a shit about listening to the fans and improving the game.

SOCOM FANS: When are we getting a patch for CODE9?
    Zipper: Fuck you.

  25. HadesGates on July 23rd, 2007 10:07 pm

They need to control the cheaters!!!! Patch the game and make good on what they say they will do, (i.e.) map packs. Control the mouthy little 10yr. olds.

  26. John Harper on July 24th, 2007 6:47 pm

They need to bring back the s1/s2 maps and keep the new ones small and recognizable. They need the accuracy and hit detection of socom 1. They also need to put an end to gls.

  27. Dustin Morgan on July 25th, 2007 2:03 pm

Socom 1 was my first online shooter experience since then ive played to many to count but always remeber socom 1 being the best. the hit detection was perfect, taking a couple good shots you were dead. the maps just right, not to big an not to small to have some horrible frag fest.socom 2 was still pretty good but the hit detection was horrible an the cheaters were even worse… socom 3 came out an seemed they just hurryed to get it out an thats how it played. PLease Please i would be happy if u brought back socom 1 an just redid all the maps an made a few more .. you would get a floood of old schoolers an new people than you ever would releasing socom 4 :(

  28. impossibLe on July 27th, 2007 9:12 am

if this game is like s1 or s2 ill buy it in a heart beat including a ps3

  29. THONGKON on July 29th, 2007 12:00 am

We need maps like Foxhunt, Xroads, Abandoned, Blizzard, just include all old school maps with all SOCOM games. Bluray is big enough. Sujo, Frostfire, Rats nest.

  30. KC Socom on July 29th, 2007 8:27 am

I had 10 guys in my Socom 2 clan who quit playing just a couple of weeks into Socom 3. Socom 3 was terrible and only 3 continued on with Socom 3. The other 7 went back to Socom 2 for a long while before the cheating became unbearable. I remember the last day I logged off Socom 2 for the final time and it was very dissapointing.

ALL of the 30-something guys in my clan would buy a Playstation 3 and this new Socom IF they would just make it like Socom 2 with some smaller maps. Some larger maps are fine, but we wouldn’t play those. If they would bring back Fish Hook that would be a bonus that made me buy it TODAY.

  31. Cody on July 30th, 2007 8:00 am

I think The new game should all so work on the ps2, ps2 owners are going to be crap out of luck. Because i think this would make a good game for the ps2 too. But other then that KEEP the GAME CLEAN AND MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. thanks,

    cody

  32. cody is a douche on July 31st, 2007 12:07 am

cody, your a dumbass. this is next gen gaming. get ur poor ass out and buy a ps3 or go play mariokart 64

    .

so all of us know that s2 and s1 were the shit.

bring back s2 and make it better. smoother. everything.

maybe not quicksniping and the m16 that good… it wouldnt even be that bad.

    fuck sure shot.

    fuck c9

    fuck zipper

and hopefully s4 is like s2/1

    holler

  33. Mike, S. on August 2nd, 2007 4:36 am

    Howdy,
I dont think I will ever get that feeling that you got when playing S1, and S2 at times. The feeling the goosebumps that you would get from the game was like no other. You would have school next morning and you would tell yourself I cant play for long. You get on at 10 and the next thing you know is 4. This happend almost everynight. Why change the series so much? The only reall answear is that you want to attract more poeple which means more money. But you allready screwed up once so most of wont fall for that trap again. Bring back S1, S2. Make the people that made your game what is today happy. Oh, fire that retard Seth.

  34. CaidenX on August 20th, 2007 12:21 am

ok here it is.. it does not need to go back to 8v8 small maps thats stupid as all hell . keep tha big maps. people can pick from small and big maps. because i do like driving tha cars around and wen its 32 in a room on big maps thats very fun. So 8v8 small only is very STUPID to say tha least. it would just make the game get boring faster . thank you and good nite.. kis kiss

  35. [APC] MaCoo on August 20th, 2007 7:52 am

I think we have beat the dead horse here with how everyone liked s1/s2. If you can just go back to the concepts that were there and build up the graphics, and reduce the lag it will be an outstanding game. People will buy it and most likely have to buy many copies from wearing the disc out. My socom disc is in my playstation 99.9% of the time, and spend some 4+ hours a day playing.

Stop putting glitches in the game and leaking it out to all the cheaters. Release on time and quit disappointing us with late and even no releases. Umm.. January 03, 2007 we will be releasing the next map pack, were is it? It has come to a point were innovated players like [APC] Undertow and [APC] Sniper have had to create a community of older players that don’t cheat in order to make the game fun again. In case the rest of you don’t know that community is Urgent Fury http://www.urgentfury.com cheaters need not apply. You will be found out and shot and booted on site.

PLEASE, PLEASE give us something that these guys can continue to deploy fun and enjoyable scenario based game play with.

    [APC] MaCoo

  36. Lone Ranger on August 20th, 2007 8:24 am

s3 and s3:Ca were the worst fps out of the one I have played before. The guns sucked. All spray and pray. The 16v16 is alittle to big its very laggy. Plain and simple bring back s1 but with better graphics maybe a couple of new guns.

All they really have to do is bring back Socom 2 with more maps. Socom 2 was the perfect game, it just needed more maps.

  39. +PLANET ÆRTH+ on December 4th, 2007 1:07 pm

Socom 2 was the most successful of the series for a reason, it was the best. I think it would be a good idea to bring back more of the old school socom 2 maps with new improvements, like look at how much of a fuss the announcement of a new crossroads brought up. If it wasn’t for all the the glitching, cheating and code 9, I think that Socom 2 would have had an even greater run. Most players only quit because of these reasons, and there is still thousands that play putting up with that garbage. Some new maps would be fun and interesting, but I think its pretty clear what true Socom fans want, a new and improved S2!!!

    see ya’s on xroads mofoz

  40. Jeff on December 17th, 2007 12:48 am

Ok I have read all of these. There is many very good points but some things that I did not see is attention to graphics. I am a sniper. I like to take my time on the maps hide in corners, bushes and anything that I can. On all the Socom Series Shrubbery has been VERY SUB-PAR! If you get in a bush the damn thing goes right thru your body and you are exposed on all sides. There is very little cover.

And for some other points. Don’t BRING back the old games, s1 and 2. Make a new one Zipper has sucked on all of them; to an extent. Take the good from s1, s2, s3 and CA and put it in Confrontation. Give us blood; give us the choice to have up to 4 items on a rifle (laser, front grip, silencer, scope etc…). Spend time on each map and decide spawn points. The Map Pack 2 that just came out SUCKS! If you stay in a spawn for more than 50sec of the start of the game you have a grenade on your head! If you have your gun near a window and are trying to look through it and shoot at something below you. There is no way. Allow us to set our gun on the base of the window frame and use that to rest it. Let us play with the environment. Not just be in the environment. Such as if I am hiding behind a rock or shooting through some gaps in wood steps the round that I just shot is stopped by an invisible force field.
Allow different changes in the weather, not just one set one.

Keep in direct contact with the community and let us know that you are fixing, the bugs and any news about the game. Keep us informed.
8v8 is good but I have a lot more people in my clan than can fit in one room together. I am not very fond of the BIG maps on account of the bigness. Playing a small map with 12v12 would be great.

For the people that are all about fast action and run & gun. Don’t forget about me. I am not into that. And I am not the only one out there. If there is only small maps close quarters were grenades rain down in the first few seconds of the game to hope to get a lucky kill. That is no fun and takes no skill. Like I said before spread the maps out and give us some space. I like the in the city maps and the open hilly wooded maps. Just take more time with the creation of the maps. I will wait for a game that will be kick ass but not one that was rushed like s3 with all the B.S. that came with it.

Now to hit detection. Come on man if I shoot a guy from 30m in the chest or even the leg with a .50 cal. That guy will be OFF this Earth! It has happened way to many times. Even with pistols or a shotgun or anything.
When in first person view. Give me a REAL first person view not a Ghost view!
There is so much more but that is why you need to stay in contact with us, something that zipper did once in a blue moon. Devote a single site for suggestions or something. There is so many, how can you keep track? Have a message board or something ON THE game that is linked directly to the developers.

Some things that might be cool. Claymores with trip wires, PMN mines that do not glow with neon lights more choices in the armory and etc. Maybe instead of a pistol give me a 9mm Sub. I don’t know how realistic that would be but since the pistols suck or are so much B.S., such as the sp10 and model18. I like the DE .50 and Mark23, those are very good.

Sorry for any grammatical errors it’s late and I have said too much.

If you put patches on rank ups like me in the new socom and like others too will stop playing socom and aka make u guys lose money. We ranks up war just like any other clan do to be number 1 frist clan to the top with most players in the clan wins. if you keep it like that and ban us its all kool but dont change the old ways becuz the rank ups buy more disks than any other socom player out there i personaly own 15 ca disk and 10 socom 3 disk making u guys some really good money off me.
